Joy Ride is a video installation that cycles through three parabolic stages of a woman's emotional journey, with each stage tied to the symbolic shoes that she wears.
The narrative begins with a fit of rage, where the character smashes a pile of telephones using knife heels, achieving a visceral release through destruction. She then transitions to a stage of reconciliation, attempting to repair the chaos she has caused by scrubbing the broken phones with cleaning brush shoes, symbolizing a desire for restoration. Finally, in a stage of regeneration, she waters the remains of her destruction with her urine while wearing gardening tool shoes, fostering new growth.
Throughout this cyclical process, the environment around her swells and transforms, reflecting the ebb and flow of her emotional state. Joy Ride examines the archetypes of women as both destroyers and creators, challenging traditional narratives and embracing the complexities of feminine power.
